What's new with Frantz brand of TP
October 18, 2009
Recently, the paper manufacturer that supplied Frantz with the toilet paper (TP) filter elements decided to drop us because we do not order our paper in trainloads - actually overseas container loads. We admit we do not order large quantities of paper at a time. One reason is the limited storage facilities we have and second, so the TP does not become aged and appear old.
As a result, Frantz is investigating other sources and invites any paper manufacturer to submit bids to us. We do have some critical standards so not just any company will be able to be in compliance with our strict standards.
First, the paper must be wound tightly on a semi-rigid center core measuring 1.5" in diameter. This is so it slips onto the base of the Frantz Filter snugly. Second, the width of the roll must fit inside the Frantz cannister. This measurement cannot exceed 4.25". Many rolls of toilet paper are 4.5" wide and will not fit inside the filter cannister. While not a critical issue, we would prefer the TP element to fit inside the cannister with a snug fit. That means a 4" diameter roll but we will accept rolls that are larger than 4" in diameter. This simply means one will need to unwind some turns to get down to the optimum size for a good fit. The excess turns can be used for traditional toilet paper use.
We have received several samples of TP from suppliers which we are evaluating now. One is a paper manufactured in Indonesia and is produced from three different trees and no recycled media is used. This janitorial-quality paper seems to be acceptable thur far as the paper quality goes. The only issue is that the center cardboard core is 1.7" instead of 1.5" and so we have produced a machined metal sleeve adaptor which fits over the Frantz Filter base metal tube. Then the TP cardboard core fits snugly over the sleeve adaptor for a good fit. This sleeve is reused with each TP element change and become a permanent part to the Frantz Filter. We are also doing some testing with heavy cardboard sleeves which are disposable and come with each roll of TP supplied.
I am interested in what brand, etc. of TP you use if it is not the Frantz-supplied TP elements. Please write to me at Crest25@verizon.net with your results and experience.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.
