Transmission Fluid

April 15, 2008

Did you know Frantz Oil Filters also makes a filter specifically for your transmission fluid? Your transmission already has an internal filter inside so why not a filter more accessible to you to clean? When is the last time you had your transmission filter cleaned or changed? Don’t answer that. Yep, that’s what I thought.

The Frantz Transmission Filter resembles the Frantz Oil Filter but is engineered differently and is a full-flow filter instead of a by-pass filter which most of us are familiar with. It does require a special in-line adapter to divert the transmission fluid to the Frantz Transmission Filter and then back again for its normal flow. The adapter is sold separately and can vary in design depending on your vehicle design.

Some adapters are installed by unscrewing the transmission line from the radiator where the fluid is cooled and the adapter is screwed into the radiator then the transmission line is screwed back in to the adapter. The adapter has two ports – one for the supply side to the Frantz Transmission Filter and the other the return line back from the Frantz Transmission Filter. Many times only an adjustable open end wrench is needed for the installation of this adapter.

The Frantz Transmission Filter itself is installed similar to the Frantz Oil Filter except the supply and return lines to directly to the adapter I just mentioned. That’s it!

Transmission gears are made up of machined steel. They mesh together and when you have metal parts meshing together and rubbing and rotating along with heat you are bound to build up dirt in the fluid in the form of microscopic metal particles which you can only imagine is not doing your transmission any good. I haven’t priced a transmission job since 1962 when it was $300 but based on that number 46 years ago, I can only imagine what they run today. That was almost my entire month’s paycheck back then. Can you afford an entire month’s paycheck today on a transmission repair? Prevention is worth a pound of cure – I mean a month’s paycheck!

The same standard Frantz filter element is used in the Frantz Transmission Filter so that makes the job even easier and much less expensive. The filter elements are only $7 for a package of four. I change mine every quarter so four lasts me one year for the oil filter and another four would cover the transmission. A package of eight is only $14. Gee, that covers the engine oil and the transmission fluid for an entire year for only $14. Now THAT is a deal!

It is not my intention to use my newsletters to spam you but as an incentive to get you to thinking about transmission fluid also needing a good regular cleaning, I am running one single special offer just for my guests who signed into my website Guest Book for which I appreciate. I read your comments regularly. I am offering you:

ONE Frantz Transmission Unit
(minus hose, fittings and mounting bracket.)

This is because you know have the experience in installing your own filter unit and these items are easily acquired locally instead of having me purchase them, add a reasonable mark-up, and then have to add shipping to get them to you. Make sense? I think so. Instead of the retail price of $225 for this unit, I am ready to save you over $100 (for the above omitted parts) and I will sell this brand new ONE UNIT for only $120 plus $9 shipping. This means just one of you will be able to take advantage of this offer therefore, the first one who buys it gets it. Fair, right?

This is an April, 2008 offer only and will expire April 30th at midnight. The adapters run $35 and if I have the right size in stock, I will discount that ONE adapter for you by $10. I only have a few adapters in stock so check with me right away. The way to tell what adapter you need is first, are your transmission lines rubber or steel lines? If the lines are rubber, then you simply cut one rubber line in half and insert the adapter which includes two barbed fittings to insert the adapter where you cut it. If the lines are steel, you will probably need the adapter that screws into the radiator and I will need to know the size of the line fitting that screws into the radiator. Either way, the hoses attach the same way to and from the Frantz Transmission Filter.

When you install your Frantz Transmission Filter, I also recommend you drain and change your transmission fluid to start fresh again. Be sure to fill it to the proper level according to your transmission fluid level dip stick. One final thought, before you buy rubber hose, be sure it is FUEL or OIL line hose. Do NOT use air hose for oil lines. I don’t want a failure with your Frantz products because the wrong hose was used.
