Installation
Traditional method and new method

Installing the unit is very easy on most any vehicle. The standard installation involves locating and removing the oil pressure sending unit and inserting a "T" fitting where it was removed. Then replace the oil pressure sending unit back into the "T" fitting. This leaves one oil pressure access in the "T" fitting to attach your Frantz Oil Filter unit supply hose fitting. The other end of the hose is attached to the center fitting on the bottom of the Frantz Oil Filter base.

Now, attach the return hose to the outer fitting on the bottom of the Frantz Oil Filter base and route it carefully back to the engine to reintroduce freshly cleaned oil for circulation. This can be done several ways.

One way I like is to attach a fitting to the valve intake cover or oil filler tube. You can even attach a swivel fitting that goes through the center of your oil filler cap for convenience.

Another way is to return the oil directly to the oil reservoir pan. This is accomplished by using our special punch tool that makes a perfect hole just the right size for a hollow bolt we also supply. This hollow bolt screws into the hole you just made in the side of the oil pan just above the level of the oil inside and allows the return hose fitting to screw into the hollow self-tapping bolt.

Now mount the unit in a convenient place using the self-tapping screws or bolts provided you with your Frantz Oil Filter. Secure any loose hoses to avoid hot manifolds or moving parts such as fan belts or the cooling fan. Don't forget to add one more quart of oil to allow the new Frantz Oil Filter to fill up on the first installation.

This installation kit is included FREE with the purchase of the Standard Frantz Oil Filter. It includes all the fittings, 6 feet of hose, hose clamps, and bracket for a standard installation. The average time to install a Frantz Oil Filter is about one to two hours the first time. After that, for your second installation expect it to take one-half hour.

This is the special self-tapping fitting for the oil return line included with your Frantz Oil Filter's supplied installation kit.

Another alternate instation method is very easy. Simply remove the stock spin-on filter being careful not to spill any oil when removing it. Install a sandwich spacer where you just unscrewed the stock filter from. There are different spacers for each vehicle depending on your filter diameter and thread pattern where it screws onto the engine.

Once the spacer is screw in place the stock filter is returned back to the engine by screwing it onto the installed sandwich. All the threads should now be the same making the replacement very easy.

The sandwich spacer has a threaded port on the side where your supply hose attaches. No need for "T" fittings or removing & replacing your oil sending unit. The sandwich spacer does not come standard with the Frantz Oil Filter but is available at a reasonable additional cost well worth saving you time and trouble.
