Installation Procedure Part 2
Place adapter against filter base and install adapter nut. ROTATE ADAPTER PRESSURE LINE TOWARD Frantz Oil Filter mounting location then securely lighten nut using 1-1/4" socket.
Install full-flow filter. NOTE: Replace full-flow filter if it has been in use for more than 2,000 miles when Frantz oil Filter is installed. Return to topside and TRIM PRESSURE LINE TO REQUIRED LENGTH. (Add an extra 3" for engine movement.) USE REMAINING LENGTH FOR OIL RETURN LINE.
The next step is to install the oil return line to the oil pan. To install the Self-tapping Hollow Bolt (supplied with the Frantz Oil Filter Kit), use a Frantz Flaring Tool ONLY available from your Frantz Oil Filter Authorized Dealer). Drive flaring tool into side of oil pan near front or rear corner of deep part of pan 2" to 3" from the bottom. Be sure surface is flat at the point of entry.
Install hollow bolt with a 9/16" socket and ratchet wrench (end wrench shown for illustration only). When properly installed, the neoprene seal will be slightly extruded around the outer rim of the steel retaining washer assuring a leakproof seal.
Attach the oil return line (pre-assembled with MALE "push-on" fitting) to STHB with 45° Steet L. Hold the STHB firmly while turning the oil return line into final position. RETURN TO "TOP SIDE" FOR FINAL HOOKUP. Check to see that pressure and return lines avoid hot exhaust pipes and are away from external moving parts such as throttle shift lever, linkage, pulleys, and belts, sharp edges, etc.
Trim oil return line to proper length (add an extra 3" for engine movement). Install FEMALE SWIVEL "Push-on" fittings to both oil lines. (NOTE: Fittings shown here are installed by the use of a special tool, however, "push-on" fittings can be assembled by hand.
Attach oil lines to Frantz Oil Filter. Tighten swivel fittings firmly. BE SURE TO ROUTE RETURN LINE DOWNWARD BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE Frantz Oil Filter TO FACILITATE DRAINING OF THE FILTER UNIT FOR SERVICING. Fasten oil lines to fender panel to assure lines "stay put" as per inset.
Start engine and allow to run for approximately ten minutes until Frantz Oil Filter cylinder is hot. Check all fittings for leaks. Place the door jam sticker in a convenient position near the Frantz Oil Filter and record mileage. CHECK OIL LEVEL. The Frantz will absorb one quart of oil . . .add oil if level is excessively low. Your installtion is now complete.
